So you've decided to join the chat, that's excellent! We're very glad to have you, but first there's a few things you should know...
Orange = Orange smileys with sunglasses are operators, they run the chat. Yellow smileys with sunglasses are voiced people (usually regulars and people we like). Regular smileys are everyone else.
Red/Evil Smilely = Half-Op. Kind of like an operator, but less...awesome. They can't kick other operators, or change certain chat modes...nothing YOU need to worry about.
Sunglasses = You're probably wondering, "Well how do I get cool sunglasses?" The answer to this is very simple, you wait. Waiting for someone to give you a voice is the only sure fire way to get it. It's not going to happen over the course of a few hours, or even days, but it'll happen eventually if you stick around and chat it up. However, one sure fire way to ensure you're not going to get voiced, is by asking or begging for it. So don't.
As explained in #1, the people on the top of the nick list, with the orange smileys, are the channel operators. They run the chat. They more or less have the final word in everything that goes on in the chat, so it'd probably be best if you didn't piss them off. In the same respect, if they ask you to do something, or don't do something, it'd be in your best interest to do so. Operators have the power to kick you from the chat, or even ban you permanantly if you try to cause trouble, and they're not afraid to do either. Don't ask if YOU can be an operator as well, but the answer is absolutely not. It is almost certain that you will never be an operator in this chat, so don't even bother asking.
TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM TYPING IN ALL CAPS. It's annoying. Every once and awhile is A-OK, but don't come into the chat with your caps lock on, or your shift key taped down, and expect everyone to be fine with it. Same goes for bold.
"hey ne1 here wanna chat? press 124" Hold on their champ, perhaps you forgot where you were. This is the WouldYouHitThis "chat room", people usually come in there with the intention of chatting. If they're already chatting, then hop into the conversation! Be aware though, the people in the chat are only human. They have to eat, sleep, and go to school/work just like everyone else. So try to remember the chat might not be as lively at 6 or 7 AM as it would at 6 or 7 PM. (Unless you're in Austrilia =P)
"hey ne ladies here..." Let me stop you there. I can already assure you the answer is more than likely yes, as we have quite a few female regulars. Do they wanna chat with you? Maybe, maybe not, but this is absolutely not the way to find out. For the most part, people in the chat are willing to talk, but this doesn't mean they automatically wanna hop on AIM and start talking about how their day was, try talking in the public chat for awhile, so you can establish who you are, and who everyone else is, before you start trying to jump into 1-on-1 conversations with people.
"roflmao doug ur rating is low you old guy" This is a common misconception about the chat. Not everyone there is who they seem to be. This is because you can change you name in the chat. To do so, simply type "/nick <TheNewNameYouWant>", without quote, into the text space. Your name cannot contain any spaces, and must start with a letter. You also have a 30 character limit for your nick, but it's advised you try to keep it under that (maybe around 9 or 10).
"how do I check people's profiles on this thing?" If you have to ask this question, the easy answer is, you don't. The profile lookup for the java chat client, as you may notice, does not work. The only option you have is either asking someone for their link, or searching them up yourself.
"hey evry1 ASL?" ASL is an AOL-ism usually used in AOL chats by people between the ages of 6 and 13. Here in the WouldYouHitThis Lounge, we're way beyond that. If you want to know where someone lives, or how old they are, you should either ask them, or check their profile. Most people in the chat aren't too keen on the use of ASL.
"hey ne chix/d00dz here wanna get nekkid 4 me on cam?" The answer to this, is most likely NO. People don't come into the chat with the intent of public displays of nudity. If someone offers you a chance to see them naked, by all means go for it, but don't ask them. That's not only disrespectful and unintelligent, it's also extremely sad.
"I have a problem with the chat, who can I talk to?" If you have a problem, you need only but ask. Most people in the chat have a pretty good idea of what's going on. If, however, someone in the chat doesn't know how to fix your problem, then you should try messaging one of the operators. Please make sure to present your question in a polite manner.
"<This Op> is mean, I don't like him/her." The only thing I can tell you here is "tough luck." The ops have been chosen over time as trust users who know what they're doing. They got their position for a reason and that's not likely to change anytime soon. If you'd like, you can always file a complaint with either Medlir or thadood, but be warned, it will likely be ignored unless it's an extremely good reason.
"I type out my ASL (19/m/FL), but no one could see my age, why is that?" The chat strips all colors before the text shows up in the channel. If you're using the java client, and are typing in color, no one else can see it but you. In chat's like this one, colors are determined by a number code written in before the text, and when the colors are stripped, so are any other numbers in the beginning of the text. For example, if you were to type in "19/m/FL" in any color text OTHER THEN the one you start with when you join the chat, it will show up as "/m/FL" to everyone except you.
"I changed the color of my text, but then I changed it back to black, and people still can't see my numbers" When you change your text color to something else, and then change back to block via the color box, you're NOT taking the color out of your text. This simply changes the color from whatever you had, to the color code for black (0), in order for you to able to start a line with numbers WITHOUT them disapearing, is to change your text back to the color "default" (99), and the only way to do that, is to rejoin the chat.
"I see people doing actions (* Monkey slaps you with a large trout), how can I do this?" What you're referring to is emoting. To emote something, simply type "/me does whatever". The text should show up in the channel as "* <YourNick> does whatever"
On occasion some members of the chat may be less than polite, to say the least. It's important to remember that this IS the internet, and people may not always be nice...in fact it's usually fair to assume they WON'T be nice. Regardless it's likely just for attention and if you care them no mind, they'll likely stop. There's no use getting worked up over a bunch of nasty text, now is there? If you find someone or a group of someone's in the chat is repeatedly harassing you, then you can message an operator about it, or you can just type "/ignore <Username>" to ignore him/her/them.
DO NOT answer back to the "flames" with your own counter-flames. No one likes to see the chat erupt into argumentive chaos. In the event that you do, if an operator sees this happening he may kick all whom are involved or whomever is the obvious aggressor. The safest thing to do is to just ignore it.
Don't flood the channel. Flooding the channel is repeatedly typing short lines in rapid sucession. The chat has protection against this and you'll likely get kicked for it, and if you're found doing it repeatedly, banned.
Racism is a violation of the Terms of Service as outlined on the site and will not be tolerated.
I'm certainly glad you think so, but hey guess what? Keep it to yourself. The people in the chat have absolutely no obligation to entertain you. They also have no obligaiton to be polite to you and will USUALLY not take the said statement very well. If you're "bored" with the chat, or just generally not enjoying yourself, either leave, or keep it to yourself. No one wants to hear you whine and such actions will get you kicked, or possibly banned.
No. This channel is hardly populated at all, and could be considered completely dead at certain hours in the morning. With that in mind, why would we bother making more channels, when we can't even fill this channel?
Most everything above can generally be summed up in 1 statement: "Don't be a douche." If you don't come into the chat acting like a douchebag, you likely won't get kicked. Is it REALLY that hard to not be a douche? This includes, but is not limited to: Being purposely and excessively annoy, being purposely and excessively retarded, excessively trying to get attention, being LordZio, nick stealing, spamming, flooding, advertising, posting malicious links, and slew of other things I need not even mention.
